Through my creative journey I have naturally developed themes that underpin my work. These are at the heart of everything I do.

NATURE

Incredible beauty and elegance is born from simplicity, and often the most complex systems have very humble origins. These base elements are in-built, just waiting to be revealed.

COMMUNITY

My inspiration comes from the people I meet, and I’m lucky be a part of so many different communities. I have friends with all kinds of passions and lifestyles, each with something different to share.

PEOPLE

To me, the most important ingredient of any project is the people involved. The right mix of people is always at the heart of the creating something special.

TOOLS

Whether physical, digital or mental, all tools are essentially the same. Craftsmanship comes with practice and the understanding that anyone can learn given time and patience.

MATERIALS

Everything comes from somewhere, and understanding this helps build respect for materials and the people involved in the production chain. There are some very interesting new movements happening like Maker Fairs with Makers Manifestos.

INSTINCT

Through experience you learn to trust your gut, making good decisions without overthinking. It's that feeling you get when a project's taking shape and everyone's synced in.

PROCESS

I’ve developed a broad range of different organisational structures allowing for fast workflows. With these in place, more time and energy can be focused on developing concepts and refining routes.

CHANGE

Embracing change is a huge part of creativity, understanding the fluidity of projects as well as their transience. It’s often a case of not getting too attached to ideas, but rather letting them live, breath and grow.

RHYTHM

I live, work and create seasonally, with regular breaks to rest and explore new things. My creativity is very much a bi-product of my lifestyle with all its ebbs and flows.

FLOW

The best projects seem to fall into place through all kinds of weird and wonderful coincidences. You can’t rationalise it, but you can learn from it by trying to keep projects in that space where things just happen.

EXPERIENCE

The most important thing for me is first hand experience, giving everything and anything a go, and having the freedom and support to learn through trial and error.

PRINCIPLES

I feel a certain level of responsibility and spend time working on projects that offer something back to communities and environments, these are often the projects that inspire me the most.

HONESTY

When it comes down to it, shit happens and everyone messes up sometimes. Nothing is that much of a problem as long as people can still communicate when the pressure's on, it’s just a case of being pragmatic.

LISTENING

The unsung art form of listening, the ability to interpret and refine information, the key to conversation. It's a pretty simple thing, but it's something I really focus when there's a lot of information to take it.

BASICS

Really simple things… making a round of tea, delivering something good, on time, on budget. It’s all about people, and understanding that everyone is different, and taking time to build and enjoy connections.
